We thought they were paying too much

The MTA was spending more than $750,000 a year hosting two web properties on Acquia. Just hosting.

We thought they were paying too much. So we did some research to see if we were right.

We looked into what AWS would cost and got estimates from other providers. We wanted to know what it would cost to get the services they needed without that bill.

The MTA was coming out of the pandemic and looking for ways to reduce spending. This seemed like a good place to start.

It was. They saved $2.1 million over three years without receiving reduced services. They just paid less.

You get used to recurring costs. The bill shows up, someone pays it, and everyone moves on to the next thing. It’s worth stopping occasionally to ask whether the number makes any sense.

Recurring costs are the easiest money to save, because nobody is looking at them.
